Family & Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Andrew Syriopoulos is the founder and owner of the Danforth Neighbourhood Dental Centre. He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto in 1987. Dr. Syriopoulos practiced in Kitchener as an associate dentist and has maintained a private practice on the Danforth since his graduation.
Dr. Syriopoulos has been a member of the Greek Town Executive for three separate terms, serving once as Vice Chair. He has served as an Executive member of the Faculty of Dentistry Dental Alumni Association and has been demonstrator of restorative dentistry at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Syriopoulos is Past President of the Asclepius Dental Society and the Toronto East Dental Society. He has served as chair of the Continuing Education Committee for the Toronto East Dental Society, and is a past member of the Membership Services Core Committee and served on the Education Core Committee at the Ontario Dental Association (ODA). He is an active member of Toronto Implant Aesthetic Study Club (TIASC). He has organized numerous continuing education seminars for the dental community including topics such as cosmetic and prosthodontic dentistry, endodontics, periodontal surgery and implants. Presently, Dr. Syriopoulos has been elected to sit on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Dental Association (ODA).
Dr. Syriopoulos continuously upgrades his knowledge including having completed extensive courses on surgical and prosthodontic implant placement and grafting with the University of Toronto and the Nobel Biocare Toronto Training Centre.
Family Dentistry
Dr. Tony Mitropoulos is excited to be back home in the vibrant City of Toronto. Having spent much of his dental education and training abroad, he welcomes the opportunity to spend much more time with family and friends in the community. Dr. Mitropoulos received his B.Sc. Degree in biology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
He then moved to Cleveland, Ohio to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Case Western Reserve University in 1999. Upon returning to Canada, Dr. Mitropoulos became a staff member of Brantford General Hospital. Having had great experiences away from Toronto, he is glad to be settling back in his native city.
Dentistry & Anaesthesia BSCPHM, DDS, MSC (Dental Anaesthesia
Dr. Gizzarelli completed his first degree at the University of Toronto in pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist at Toronto General Hospital for 2 years before returning to the University of Toronto to study dentistry. Following his dental degree, he continued his studies in the same university and completed a 3-year, full-time Master's degree in Dental Anaesthesia.
During these 3 years, Gino trained in the operating rooms of the Hospital for Sick Children and Toronto East General Hospital with other training rotations at Toronto Western and Toronto General Hospitals.
Dr. Gizzarelli is a member in good standing with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Dental Association, the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists, and the Canadian Academy of Dental Anaesthesia. Dr. Gizzarelli is a diplomat of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is a certified specialist in dental anaesthesia (in Ontario).
Through sedation or general anaesthesia, Dr. Gizzarelli looks forward to making you or your child's appointment very pleasant and is happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
Family Dentistry
Prior to becoming a dentist, Dr. Chris Swayze completed an Honors degree in Physiology at the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from Queens University. Dr. Swayze graduated from the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Dentistry in 1993. Following this, he completed a General Practice Residency at Victoria Hospital and University Hospital in London, Ontario. Dr. Swayze worked in private practice in Kingston, Ontario until 2001 before moving to Toronto with his wife, who has completed her medical residency.
Dr. Swayze has taught at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto, Faculties of Dentistry, and acted as the Assistant Clinical Director at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. He has also lectured extensively at numerous dental conferences, including at the Ontario Dental Association annual conference. Dr. Swayze has volunteered his services in several northern communities, Guatemala, Belize, and to homeless teens.
Dr. Swayze presently divides his time between acting as the Assistant to the Registrar at the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, and at the Danforth Neighbourhood Dental Centre. Dr. Swayze, his wife, and 2 children are proud to be part of the Danforth community.
Periodontist
Dr. Nicolas Naurato received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with honours at the University of Toronto in 2000. He practiced as an associate dentist in the GTA for the following year. He went on to complete a 1-year residency program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Mississippi. He stayed in the residency for a second year as a dental research fellow and then returned to the GTA to work again in private practice.
Nicolas continued his postgraduate education at the University of Rochester to obtain his specialty certificate in periodontology. He is a member in good standing with both the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Periodontics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Naurato is a certified specialist in periodontics. In addition to working in private practice, he also enjoys being a clinical instructor of periodontology at the University of Toronto.
Family Dentistry
Dr. Arshil Jiwa earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Western Ontario in 2017. During his time at Western, he was a member of the Dean's Honour List and graduated with distinction. He also holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from York University, graduating First Class.
During his studies at Western and following his graduation, Dr. Jiwa enjoyed lots of volunteer work and gained valuable experience working in the Ottawa region.
Dr. Jiwa is a member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Dental Association, and the Ontario Dental Association.
A perfectionist at heart, Dr. Jiwa holds his work to a high standard. As it is, he has a calming personality, but he is also qualified to provide Nitrous Oxide sedation for those patients with dental anxiety.
Dr. Jiwa is an avid basketball fan! When he is not watching, playing, or attending his favorite sport, he can be found spending quality time with his beloved Sheltie dog, (wait for it...) Kobe.
Family Dentistry
Dr. Jenn Nguyen obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Western Ontario, where she graduated with distinction. She also holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) degree from McMaster University. She is a member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Dental Association, Ontario Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Nguyen enjoys all aspects of dentistry but especially enjoys working with children and anxious patients and is certified in nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation. With her calm demeanor and gentle approach, she makes patients feel at ease.
Outside of Dentistry, Dr. Nguyen enjoys yoga, travelling, good food and spending time with her family and friends.
Family Dentistry
Dr. How received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario, where she graduated with distinction and was awarded the Michael Brooke Award in Oral Medicine. She also holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from McMaster University. Upon graduation, Dr. How was accepted into the University of Toronto's General Practice Residency program at Sunnybrook Hospital, where she gained advanced post-graduate training and clinical experience.
Dr. How has volunteered in London Ontario, as well as in rural Vietnam, providing dental care in underserved populations. She has also worked in remote First Nations communities in Northern Ontario.
Gentle, informative, and meticulously detail oriented, Dr. How is dedicated to providing excellent patient care in a relaxing and comfortable environment. To increase patient comfort, she is certified in nitrous oxide sedation. Dr. How strongly believes in lifelong learning, and continues to expand her knowledge and hone her skills by regularly attending dental courses and conferences.
Outside of the office, Dr. How enjoys cooking, baking and visual arts. She is passionate about travelling and exploring places near and far.
Family Dentistry
Dr. Hathiari received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from The University of Birmingham, England in 2001. He has a passion for post graduate education and has since earned Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK) at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2003. He also received his Diploma in Implant Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2012. Dr. Hathiari is also certified in Invisalign treatment.
Dr. Hathiari has worked in full time in General Practice in the UK until recently when he moved to the GTA with his wife and two sons. He is a member in good standing of both the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and the General Dental Council in the UK.
He strives to provide an outstanding patient experience by listening carefully to patients needs and putting them at ease. He has many years of experience looking after the smiles of patients of all ages and likes to keep up to date with the latest techniques to refine his expertise.
When he is not at the dental office, Dr. Hathiari enjoys reading, travelling, nature trails and spending time with his family and friends.
General Dentistry
Dr. Jonathan Shainhouse has been creating and maintaining beautiful smiles for his patients since 1992. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Case Western Reserve University. He went on to complete his one-year advanced general practice residency at Genesee Hospital in Rochester, New York before returning to practice to his hometown Toronto.
Early in his dental career Dr. Shainhouse provided his dental services for First Nations communities in the Sandy Lakes Native Reserve.
Dr. Shainhouse stays abreast of the latest developments in the world of dentistry as a member of the Royal College of Dentistry of Ontario and the Ontario Dental Association. He has many years of training in general, restorative, surgical, laser, and cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. Shainhouse enjoys building relationships with his patients and is committed to their oral healthcare needs.
When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Shainhouse enjoys spending time with friends, family, and pursuing his life-long interest in magic.
Dr. Igor Zivanovic
Family & General Dentistry
Dr. Igor Zivanovic grew up in Toronto. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Prior to that he earned an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto.
During his time in Australia, he practiced in both metropolitan and rural areas. He regularly attends courses and study clubs at both the national and international circuit, constantly upgrading his knowledge. He is a member in good standing of both the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) and Ontario Dental Association (ODA).
Dr. Zivanovic enjoys working with adult patients as well as children. His calming personality puts all patients at ease. He is always striving at providing a positive dental experience.
Outside of dentistry, he enjoys sports, travelling and spending time with his friends and family. After much adventure in Australia, he is happy to be home in Toronto and proud to give back to his local community.
